Southwest Powerboating is owned & Operated by Diane Bush and Ian Lawrence both experienced instructors.

Diane known to most simply as ‘Di’ went straight into the Outdoor leisure industry full time; after completion of her apprenticeship as a motor technician.

It has taken her around the globe starting off in East Anglia and the murky waters of the North Sea across to Europe to New Zealand, before realising the water was blue in Cornwall, and settling there.

Diane has interests in many sports including Sailing and Windsurfing for both of which she is an RYA Advanced Instructor; however the Powerboating has gradually taken over partly due her involvement with the Falmouth lifeboats. She is a Helm on their Inshore or Atlantic 75, and Mechanic on their all weather Lifeboat which is the Severn class and the largest in the RNLI fleet. She holds her Yachtmaster both in Power and sail, and is a Powerboat trainer.

Ian after qualifying as a vehicle technician and domestic electrical technican joined the armed services and gained numerous qualifications relating to power vessels both operational and leisure while at the same time gaining both Sail and Powerboat RYA qualifications. This enabled Ian to gain considerable experience with a variety of vessels in challenging situations. On leaving the service he was employed at the Royal Navy Sail & Power Boat Training Centre in Falmouth instructing mainly RYA Dinghy & Power Boats courses including advance levels, other duties included Yacht charter and maintenance. Ian is a costal Skipper and sailed on many types of vessels and his last major sailing trip was crossing the Indian Ocean with Di. Ian is an advance Power Boat instructor and has spent much time instructing youth organisations across the UK.

Between them they provide a relaxed and professional environment, delivering a high standard of instruction with a breadth of knowledge seldom found. So you really can be assured of quality training in a wonderful environment.
