The RYA Powerboat scheme at the introductory levels is split into Planing (RIB) and Displacement. We are able to offer training on both Planing and Displacement vessels¸ to ensure you gain the most from your course with us.
Currently the vessels used are;
The Destroyer range of Humber RIBs were designed and developed through recognition of the concept of a rigid inflatable boat’s sea keeping capabilities. This Destroyer has endured extensive sea trials in the harshest of conditions to achieve, without doubt, a perfect performing RIB that is in a class of its own. Custom built for our requirements.
These solidly constructed vessels have been around since the 1960’s, originally created as the ‘perfect inshore fishing boat.’ The fact that they are still built today is a tribute to their success. Ours is 18ft in length, with a cuddy and has the option of being operated by wheel from under the cuddy or the traditional method from the stern with the tiller. She is fitted with an inboard Yanmar 8HP engine, and all the necessary safety equipment.
This is a ‘go anywhere’ vessel with outrageous sea keeping. Motor Boat Monthly reported ‘an icebreaking build coupled to a very special hull design’. An independent test carried out by Motor Boat Monthly in 2007 gave this hull 5/5 and to quote stated ‘The best 35 feet of hull we have ever tested’. Deep-vee hull with unique dynamic lift. Excellent sea boat especially in rough conditions. Good stability and handles well at low speeds. Smooth ride offering little or no slamming. This vessel is fitted with twin Yanmar 260hp engines 6BY and ZF 6301V gear boxes and on recent trials attained a top speed of 25 knots; burning 4 litres of diesel per mile whilst cruising at 22 knots.
Training can also be carried out on your own vessel.
