The RYA scheme at the introductory levels is split into Planing (RIB) and Displacement.
At Southwest Powerboating you will be able to specify if you wish your course to be conducted on either plaining or displacement craft however, normally the courses are conducted on both planing and displacement vessels to ensure you gain the most from your course with us.
Currently the vessels used are:
Planing (RIB) is an Avon Adventure – Avon are renowned for their solid construction and robust use in the marine environment, ours is fitted with a Mariner 60HP engine which is powerful enough for fast planing with a course of 4 adults.
Displacement Vessel is a Plymouth Pilot – These solidly constructed vessels have been around for a long time and used by many in both the commercial and leisure industries and the fact that they are still built today is a tribute to their success. Ours is 18ft in length, with a cuddy and has the option of being operated by wheel from under the cuddy or the traditional method from the stern with the tiller. She is fitted with an inboard Yanmar 10HP engine, and all the necessary safety equipment.
